The Furious Flower Poetry Center at James Madison University invites proposals for papers, panels, and performances that engage the global histories, aspirations, and innovative forms of Black poetry for our 2024 conference. Since our groundbreaking 1994 gathering which was headlined by the great Gwendolyn Brooks, the Center has convened a series of decade-defining conferences that bring together significant voices, while exploring major developments within Black poetic activity and scholarship.
