The 2024 PACT Workshop – Elevate Your Research Through Podcasting! – brought together emerging scholars (graduate students and early-career scholars) ahead of the ASA Annual Meeting for an immersive, hands-on workshop. This full-day event provided participants with the skills and tools to effectively communicate their research to a broad audience through podcasting.
The day began with a roundtable discussion led by Dr. Peter Alegi, Dr. Bamba Ndiaye, and Dr. Reginold Royston on public scholarship, African Studies, and podcasting best practices. Participants then learned about podcast production and collaborated in small groups to refine their storytelling techniques. With the guidance and technical support from MSU’s Matrix: Center for Digital Humanities & Social Sciences and MSU African Studies Center participants worked to craft and record their own podcast segments.
The result is the PACT Podcast which features both the roundtable discussion and segments by emerging scholars discussing their research. These recordings, edited and published with the support of Matrix, are now available on ASAPOD and The Africanist Podcast.
