As African Studies continues to gain more traction in historiographical conversations globally, ESN invites emerging scholars to contribute to panels that capture these growing conversations within various disciplines in African studies. We explore emerging debates about the continent through novel scholarship redefining the stakes of old and new discourses, debates, histories, identities, textualities, and praxis and recenter Africa as a central epistemic actor on the global stage.
This panel invites contributions from researchers who identify as emerging scholars (graduate students and early-career scholars within 5 years of graduating) whose work critically explores and reflects Africa and its people through place, ideas, and identity. We prompt presentations that reflect and question the development and shifts within transdisciplinary dialogues about the continent and its people. We welcome traditional paper presentations as well as scholars who wish to explore alternative materials, and methods, and offer refreshing perspectives on African studies.
Deadline for submission: March 1st, 2025. Please submit a 250-500 word proposal, your name, institution, position (grad student, post-doc, associate professor, lecturer, etc), and CV to emergingscholars@africanstudies.org.
