This panel invites submissions that explore the relationship between oral traditions and warfare in African historical contexts. It seeks to highlight how oral histories serve as valuable sources for understanding the dynamics of warfare in African societies across time. We welcome contributions from a range of disciplines beyond history, provided they engage with oral traditions from communities whose members are still living.
By centering oral histories, this panel aligns with this year’s ASA theme, “African Intellectual Traditions,” broadening our understanding of knowledge production and transmission in African societies.
Requirements:
-Makes use of original research on oral traditions dealing with warfare.
-Deals with oral traditions from communities whose members are still living.
