This panel invites scholars to explore the multifaceted intersections of feminist perspectives and practices articulated by Afro-descendant women artists across literature, film, art, media, and performance. By centering Afro-diasporic cultural production, we aim to disrupt dominant colonial narratives and illuminate the complex interplay of gender, race, class, sexuality, and nationality. We particularly welcome papers that examine how Afro-feminist discourses in Latin America and the Caribbean resonate with those on the African continent, fostering a transnational dialogue on resistance and representation.
Proposals from scholars at all career stages, including graduate students and independent researchers, are welcomed. Interdisciplinary approaches are highly encouraged. To be considered for the panel, please submit an abstract of 250–300 words and a brief bio to Tomi Adeaga (University of Vienna) and Lidiana de Moraes (Vanderbilt University) at lidiana.demoraes@vanderbilt.edu by March 13, 2025.
We look forward to your submissions and fostering a vibrant and inclusive dialogue on the transformative power of Afro-diasporic feminist cultural production. If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at the provided email address.
