Oladele Ayorinde is a Research Fellow at the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation, Stellenbosch University and a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Music, Mountain Top University, Nigeria. His research intersects music, sound, and the political economy of everyday life in Africa and the African diaspora. He focuses on how music and sound shape and reflect relationships between people, places, the economy, politics, religion, the environment, and technology. His work is rooted in ethnographic methodologies, historical approaches, critical discourse analyses. Central to Oladele’s research and teaching are questions of everyday music-making, sound and soundscapes, city/place-making, self-making, urban/city life, migration/mobility, gender, postcoloniality, precarity, agency, transnational social, cultural and economic productions, global African/Black identities, sustainable development, and social justice and empowerment
