Collective Memory Work as a Catalyst: Reviving Revolutionary Pedagogies towards Educational Transformation

This panel examines the transformative role of education in shaping social change across African nations, emphasizing the historical and contemporary significance of educational practices in fostering collective memory, consciousness, and cultural identity. Utilizing Africana feminist, archival, and cartographic methodologies, the session scrutinizes the educational legacies left by African educators. Moreover, the panel will underscore investigations into both formal and informal teaching and learning, exploring how the work on collective memory can illuminate the ways in which educational frameworks have historically contributed to revolutionary movements, community building, and the creation and preservation of diasporic knowledge. By investigating the intersections of historical memory, educational praxis, and liberation, this session aspires to reveal insights that can inform current educational reform and inspire future generations throughout the African continent.
