Title VI Resource Survey

The ASA is currently exploring options for stop gap funding to support NRCs impacted by the recent Dept of Ed staffing cuts. While we explore these options, it is crucial that we have realistic data from our NRCs to best focus our time and energy. Given the rapidly shifting landscape, we understand that these answers may not hold in perpetuity and Directors are welcome to submit amendments in the future if circumstances change. Please note that the ASA is in the exploration phase and ultimately may not be able to provide any resources. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful replies.

Title VI Stop Gap Funding

  • Please tell us the broadest range of resources necessary for a single year stop gap. e.g.: $6,000 – $80,000
  • Please explain in detail what this range covers or does not cover. Please be explicit about the impact including number jobs saved and length of those roles, number of students and courses taught, number and variety of resources produced and disseminated, etc. Please also include whether or not your university is supporting your department, and/or if you believe they would be willing to at least match these funds. e.g.: $6,000 would fully pay for our largest Swahili II course impacting 8 students total next semester. The university has indicated that they will not support language instructor employment beyond May 2025. $80,000 would allow the department to maintain 5 language faculty on a lecture basis through May 2026 and provide 30% support for our Outreach Coordinator.
  • If institutions receive stop gap funds from ASA and then Title VI payments are reinstated, please explain how the ASA funds would be spent. Funds must be spent on items that fall within the ASA’s mission.
