Global Operations Manager for Africa South of the Sahara

Summary of Position
The Global Operations Manager for Africa South of the Sahara (ASOS) supports the day-to-day management of a portfolio of SIT programs primarily in the designated region and is responsible for working with Program Administrators, Academic Directors, program staff, entity directors, and home office support departments to ensure efficient, effective, and compliant program implementation. The position will focus on the day-to-day program operations related to legal compliance, financial management, student health and well-being, business affairs, staff and faculty issues, strategic growth and re-organization, the development of new programs/sites, and the formation of new partnerships (with higher education institutions and for new grant opportunities). The successful candidate will have a combination of experience working and living in the region, interest in regional affairs, work history of managing global higher education programs, and a sense of entrepreneurship. The Global Operations Manager for ASOS will be expected to lead regular regional administrative meetings, participate in the delivery of staff training, travel in the region, and participate in organization wide projects.

The SIT Global Operations team is composed of highly talented, flexible, multi-disciplinary individuals who share the end goal of supporting the delivery of the highest quality global higher education programs. Implementing programs in 50 countries requires constant modernization and problem solving. Global Operations Managers will have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from all over the world to solve problems and bring about change. They will relish the opportunity to lead and participate in project teams that seek to update SIT’s ways of working and thinking. They will be excited to learn about each of the programs in their portfolio and driven to support their strategic growth.

Responsibilities

Strategic Growth and Reorganization
• Support strategic growth of SIT by leading efforts to open new sites and liaising with potential partners and funders.
• Contribute to SIT’s continuing re-organization by analyzing operations in the region and creating new structures and processes to meet the needs of growing program centers.
Staff and Faculty—Payroll and Other Processes
• Develop local staff hiring processes in consultation with Human Resources.
• Lead processes of hiring new local employees and contractors ensuring that the established internal process is followed.
• Ensure that newly hired employees are paid through a compliant payroll process.
• In collaboration with the SIT Human Resources Department maintain records of locally hired employees ensuring that all employees have current letters of employment or employment contracts when needed.
• Approve employee leave records ensuring they are accurate and complete.
• Lead and contribute to projects related to locally hired employee benefits, job satisfaction, and other issues.

Legal Compliance
• Ensure that compulsory activity reports are submitted to government agencies. This may include report writing and working with other SIT faculty and staff to compile reports.
• Work with General Counsel’s Office to create and close legal entities in the region.
• Ensure year-end financial reporting is submitted per local requirements and that agreements with accounting firms are up to date.

Business Affairs
• Manage negotiating, execution, and tracking of agreements related to purchases of high value goods and services.
• Support programs in day-to-day financial management.
• Oversee the annual budget submission process for programs in the portfolio providing regional level approval.
• Submit Know Your Client documentation when it is requested by banks and other institutions.
• In conjunction with signatories and home office, manage processes related to opening, closing, and changing bank accounts. Ensure that bank account database records are up to date.
• Review and approve lease renewals. Ensure valid leases are collected and filled.

Student Health, Safety, and Well-being
• Contribute to health and safety planning in the region.
• Serve as a member of the crisis response team responsible for managing urgent program and student issues.
• Perform learning center site reviews according to the established process.
Collaborative Project Management and Problem Solving
• Lead and participate in operations team projects. Projects may include organization and delivery of staff and faculty training workshops, implementation of large-scale change in institutional business practices, or ad hoc research and reporting on specific program issues.

Qualifications
• Master’s degree in international education, business administration, or a related field preferred, or bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience in higher education or global program operations.
• Interest in and knowledge of current affairs in the region.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in study abroad administration or related operational support position.
• Problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proven ability to work cross-culturally.
• A deep commitment to equity, inclusion, justice, and diversity
• Competence in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks.
• Articulate command of the English language, both oral and written.
• Legally permitted to work in one of the location countries listed above.

Salary Range
$52,000 to $60,000 USD per Year
