The Department of African, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Literatures (AMESALL) is pleased to invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate during the 2019-20 academic year to begin in September 2019. Initial appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and available funding. The Postdoctoral Associate will receive a $45,000 salary, health benefits, and office space. Postdoctoral associate will conduct research in their field, participate in academic activities of AMESALL, teach one undergraduate course, and work with the directors in organizing the symposium series on Global Africa and the Humanities.

The candidate should have a PhD in an area of African Humanities, with a special research focus on African literatures, cultures and media of Sahelian West Africa within a gendered framework. Proficiency in one of the major West or Central African languages and Arabic/French/Kiswahili/Portuguese will be an added advantage. All requirements for the PhD must be completed by August 1, 2019.
