The University of Iowa announces an opening for a Lecturer position in Swahili Language to begin in August 2019. The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possible re-appointment of up to two additional years, and the position will be renewable thereafter in three-year increments, pending collegiate approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Swahili has been taught at Iowa since 1991, and we are seeking a dynamic colleague to inspire and empower students. Responsibilities include: teaching three courses per semester (12 s.h. each semester) with an emphasis on communicative skills, and contributing to curriculum and materials development for the program.

Required qualifications: M.A. required, PhD preferred, in foreign language education or related field in hand by the start date; native or near-native proficiency in Swahili and English; familiarity with innovative methods of language instruction including the use of technology; experience in teaching Swahili language to English-speaking undergraduate students.

Desirable qualifications: Experience in Swahili curriculum development and experience creating language and cultural events.
