Scripps College TT Position in Pre-1900 U.S. History/African Diaspora & Atlantic World

Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in U.S. history before 1900, with research and teaching expertise in the African diaspora and the Atlantic world, beginning in the academic year 2024-5. Candidates whose research and teaching interests also address gender and sexuality are especially encouraged to apply. The position is shared by the Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies and the Scripps Department of History. The successful candidate will offer courses in both departments and be expected to teach in the college’s Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities program. The teaching load is 2/2.

Ph.D. in History or Africana Studies with a historical emphasis required by position start date. Evidence of teaching experience and teaching excellence are also required. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the college’s goal of improving higher education for underrepresented students. Towards that end, applicants should submit a brief (one page) statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

The salary for this position will range from $75,384 to $83,760 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
