Salary range: The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position:

The Department of English at the University of California, Berkeley is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in African literatures and cultures in English. The successful candidate will have training in African literary/cultural studies; grounding in one or more African national, regional, and/or diasporic literatures/cultures; and a dynamic critical approach to the tradition(s) in which they specialize. We welcome a wide variety of theoretical orientations and critical approaches to the field.
Tenure-track Assistant Professors at Berkeley are expected to excel in research, teaching, and service. Elements of the position include: implementing a program of research that culminates in the publication of books and articles; developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate seminars and lecture courses; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; supervising dissertation research; and various administrative activities in the English department and across the University.
