I am Professor of African Art in the Department of History of Art & Architecture at the University of California, Santa Barbara. My research focuses on indigenous, modern and contemporary African art, cultural informatics, and cultural patrimony / Heritage analysis. I am the author of Ben Enwonwu, The Making of An African Modernist (Rochester, 2008), Making History: African Collectors and the Canon of African Art Collection (2011). I am the founder and editor of Critical Interventions: Journal of African Art History and Visual Culture. I am also a curator, cultural entrepreneur and internationally acclaimed commentator on African Cultural Patrimony debates. I am passionate about how racial impacts the value of African life and culture.
