Hormuud Lecture
Hormuud Lecture
The Hormuud Lecture was established in 2013 with a generous grant from Hormuud Telecom Somalia Inc. The Hormuud Lecture will focus on the themes of leadership, development, and/or democracy in Africa, and will be delivered by an African scholar in even years at the ASA Annual Meeting.
Selection Process
In consultation with the Board and other constituencies and with the support of the Executive Director, the Annual Meeting Committee makes recommendations for the Hormuud Lecture. The Association will attempt to alternate African Scholars based in Africa with those in the diaspora.
The Award
The Hormuud Lecturer will receive an honorarium of $1,000 for the lecture and possible paper. The African Studies Association will cover the economy airfare, accommodation for up to 4 nights at the conference hotel, and registration for the Annual Meeting up to a total of $2,500 per lecturer.
