How can we understand the complex dynamics of race and class through an analysis of African television programs? This panel seeks to bring together interdisciplinary scholars in areas such as media studies, anthropology, sociology, and African Studies who are investigating television programming on and for the African continent. Papers may address a wide range of issues relating to this topic, such as: how does television produced for African audiences reflect desires for capitalist upward mobility? What do local African television productions say about social and gendered dynamics? How is non-African television consumed or interpreted on the African continent? The panel is open to all disciplines and regions, and especially encourages scholars from the African continent to apply.
