The portrayal of fictional African countries in media often perpetuates stereotypes and misconceptions about the African continent, its people, and its cultures. From Wakanda and Zamunda, to Equatorial Kundu, Sangala: these representations can have profound implications for how policymakers and the general public perceive Africa and its role in global affairs. By critically examining the intersection of media, fiction, and foreign policy, this panel seeks to shed light on the ways in which popular culture shapes geopolitical narratives and influences diplomatic strategies.
