New Perspectives on Africa and the Second World War

Research on Africa and the Second World War has expanded considerably in the recent decades. This scholarship has enhanced our understanding of the multiple levels on which African and African diasporic contributions shaped the war, how it affected individuals and communities within these populations, and how it transformed Africa’s political, economic, and social landscapes during and after the war. Despite this, many aspects and experiences of Africa and the world war remain unexamined. This panel seeks to bring together scholars exploring new lines of inquiry into African and African diasporic contributions to and experiences of the Second World War.

Interested participants should send paper proposals to either Leslie Sabakinu at sabakinu@wisc.edu or Kathleen Alfin at kalfin@wisc.edu no later than 26 March 2023.
