This panel considers the use of disgust in postcolonial cultural productions from/about sub-Saharan Africa. Focusing on disturbing cultural productions (comics, films, novels,…) our panel invites Postcolonial Studies to embrace ugly sights, touch, tastes, sounds, and smells to interrogate the role of not only disturbing gazes, but also synesthetic discomfort in the construction of a stronger postcolonial consciousness.
