The session seeks to facilitate participants’ engagement with the following objectives: (1) discuss opportunities, challenges and pedagogical strategies focused on immersion and study abroad programs in Africa; (2) discuss the intersection of study abroad and representation of everyday life on the African continent; and (3) describe successes, challenges and lessons learned when implementing short term, and semester-long programs and various strategies for teaching and learning about Africa by travelling to and living on the continent. Critical, strategic and practical approaches are welcome alongside discussions that focus on how studying in Africa offers opportunities for transforming the image of the continent and forming sustainable interest in and relationships with Africa.
